Activision | Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick States Blizzard’s New MMO Will Have “More Broad Appeal”
Speaking at the Deutsche Bank Securities Technology Conference in San Francisco Kotick dishes out another crumb of information
For anyone who has been following the news surrounding Blizzard’s top-secret, currently in-development, “next generation” MMO it can be somewhat hard to piece together all the information – a quote here, a blurb there, a post someplace else. If you slowly piece it all together you can start to at least get a high level picture of what is happening.
Recently at the Deutsche Bank Securities Technology Conference Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision | Blizzard, gave us another quote that we can now add to the puzzle that is Blizzards new MMO. Mr. Kotick was speaking to recent improvements made to the Battle.net system and had this to say…
“What we’ve announced at Blizzard is that we have StarCraft coming, Diablo has been in production…and a new, unannounced MMOG that has a little more broad appeal.”
Now, to be honest, this was really not all that interesting of a statement. What was interesting though was the choice of words, “a little more broad appeal.” Now, I ask…broader than what? One would assume he was referring to a wider audience than the over 10 million people who currently play World of Warcraft. Now, that’s a pretty broad reach for any product, let alone a video game.
If you start adding up all of the key words we’ve heard about the game we have “not a World of Warcraft sequel”, “not a competitor to World of Warcraft”, “new”, “cool”, “different”, “next-generation”, “brand-new franchise”, and now “broad appeal”. I don’t know about you, but I’m starting to think that this new game may take place in a current or modern time sort of timeline.
